Cyrious Tile originally got its start in 1988 as Professional Installations founded by Doug Cyr. Working through contract with the Color Tile stores in the Bangor area all types of flooring were installed including carpet, tile, vinyl and wood. The company quickly grew from a one man operation to Doug and six employees. Success and growth of the company can be attributed to two key principles: the first is punctuality; Doug strived to always be on time. The second is respect; most importantly respect of the clients home. The goal is to always provide a professional product on time in a clean and workman like manner. These principles provided a steady workload of projects exclusively on Mount Desert Island in many of the summer estates. During this period of time Professional Installations expanded back into the building market. However, the tile work remained a major share of the work being performed, and due to a heavy workload, it was being performed primarily during nights and weekends. Last year, with the encouragement of friend and clients, Cyrious Tile was born from Professional Installations and focuses entirely on the tiling trade with a strong foundation of custom tile work. Who is Doug Cyr? Doug Cyr was born in Van Buren, Maine in the late fifties and relocated to the Bangor area in the late sixties. At the age of thirteen his love of construction was born and fostered as he helped his father in the residential construction market. Doug later graduated from Bangor High School and shortly thereafter married. Doug is proud of his strong family commitment that he learned growing up in a family of nine. The love of family led Doug and his wife Janet to start a family and raise three wonderful children. The family bond is not only limited to his biological family but includes his military family that he has served with from more than a decade. Doug has spent twelve years in the Navy and the last year with the Air National Guard. After many years of working with his father Doug decided to start his own construction company, Doug Cyr Remodeling was founded in 1980. Despite the rewards of the construction company he found that the need for professional tile and flooring installation was hard to satisfy. In an effort to fill this void Doug devoted the next several years to mastering the tile and flooring trade, and is now well known for his custom showers and intricate tiling patterns. Who is Mike Cyr? Mike Cyr started in the construction business right out of high school in 1968. He worked with his father, Gil Cyr, for Cote’s Construction until 1970 when he started working for Frank Acoustics. Mike soon learned all the tricks of the suspended ceiling trade and has been doing it ever since. Mike now joins the Cyrious Tile team, bringing his 37 years of experience to help us with flooring as well as offering his knowledge of suspended ceilings to all of our customers.
